Night of 1000 Dinners

Night of 1000 Dinners is an annual community celebration of International Women's Day. In 2021 it will be a pandemic-safe virtual event via Zoom. The program will include:

  • International music, dance, and spoken-word presentations by local performers;

  • Recognition of three local organizations that advance the Sustainable Development Goals;

  • A drawing for gift cards at local ethnic restaurants;

  • Plus some surprises!

Tickets will be $25 for community members and $10 for students. Each ticket purchaser will receive the Zoom link for the event and will be entered into the drawing for restaurant gift cards. Family members and friends may share the same ticket if they are participating on the same device. Tickets will be available for purchase online by February 1.

Proceeds from the event will support organizations that have stepped up to assist those hard-hit by the pandemic.

Video Transcript:

Hello! On behalf of the Johnson County’s United Nations Association Chapter, we are excited to invite you to our annual Night of a 1000 Dinners this March 10th at 6 PM.

Typically, this event consisted of an in-person international buffet, however, we are now hosting a virtual community event to mark International Women’s Day and to honor three local groups advancing in the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals.

The three organizations that we are proud honor this year are the Domestic Violence Intervention Program, Sankofa Outreach Connection, and Houses into Homes.

Even though this year the Night of a 1000 Dinners will look different, we will still promote locally-owned, ethnic restaurants by holding a drawing for gift cards in the Johnson County area.

Tickets for this event are $25 or $10 for students and those hard-hit by the pandemic. Tickets may be purchased online at eventbrite.com or by mailing a check payable to JC UNA to JC UNA 308 E. Burlington Street Number 245, Iowa City, IA 52240. Can’t attend? Donations are gratefully accepted.

Funds raised through ticket sales and sponsorships will be donated to the UN World Food Programme and the food pantries in Coralville, Iowa City and North Liberty that have stepped up to meet the needs of those hard-hit by the pandemic.

We will also be providing entertainment from various local groups to provide intermission between speakers. More details to come soon.

This one-hour event will take place online, on zoom, on March 10th at 6:00. Come!
